My relationship with health and wellbeing, and my home

Alexis Neil

Welcome to Winter! Does anyone actually say this? I know I don’t … dark mornings, cold nights and the cool-down from the festive period. January is a long month and payday feels like it’s a million miles away. As a result, we tend to find that our health and wellbeing suffers. For me, I started my journey with health and wellbeing well before the New Year. Before Christmas, I was falling into bad habits and found that I was putting on the pounds, and my mental health was struggling. So, I decided to make a few changes for the better.

I believe that how we feel about ourselves starts at home. It’s all about being comfortable in your home environment.  You know that warm, cosy feeling when you’re snuggled up under a blanket? The shutters are closed, candles are lit and the wax melt is gently simmering away. I love arriving home after a long walk, the heating is on and I jump into a hot shower and relax on the sofa with a feeling of warmth in my belly. It’s all about being at peace in our surroundings, and our homes should be our sanctuaries. If you don’t get that wow feeling, think about why this may be and make a change.

So, how do we create a healthy relationship with our bodies and minds? For me, exercise is a huge part of my health and wellbeing journey. I work out a lot and yes, I’m addicted but I just love it. What I enjoy most is my 6am online bootcamp that I do every Saturday from my living room. I roll up the rug, throw open the shutters and let fresh air in the doors. By attending these sessions, my Saturday mornings start the right way. I am like Tigger bouncing around, but I don’t stop just there...I usually go for a beach walk later in the day to blow off the cobwebs from the previous week. It’s amazing what a little fresh air can do!

I hope that you will find these tips useful in this year new year. The best advice that I can give anyone is to use your time wisely and don’t take on too much at once. Do something that’s positive for you. We can all be guilty of running round in circles at 100mph and losing our sense of self. Take time aside for you. Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Take care xx
